It’s difficult for me to contain my excitement about downtown. I will admit, after living here for over sixteen years, I had my doubts and never frequented downtown as there was nothing enticing enough. Today, downtown is my preferred destination! What changed my opinion? Read on and join me in supporting the revitalization of downtown Las Vegas!
Downtown Las Vegas, in the very distant past, drew tourists to the Fremont Experience http://www.vegasexperience.com/and some of the iconic downtown hotels such as The Golden Nugget http://www.goldennugget.com/… now walking through the downtown area, there is a real urban feel with the many exciting additions creating a flow.
The Ogden, Soho Lofts, Newport Lofts and Juhl provide modern and loft-style residences to support the influx of businesses moving downtown like Zappos; restaurants such as Eat, Le Thai, Mundo, Lola’s joined long term downtown foodie destinations such as Triple George Grill. The Arts District boasts a broad mix of galleries, art studios, showrooms and unique stores.
World Market Center http://www.wmclv.com/ began to shape the downtown skyline in the summer of 2005. Slowly, masterfully crafted projects started to break ground all around the immediate area, including Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health http://my.clevelandclinic.org/neurological_institute/lou-ruvo-brain-health/default.aspx, designed by architect Frank Gehry.
The Smith Center http://www.thesmithcenter.com/, a truly grand performing arts complex, set out to unite the community culturally, and they far exceeded all expectations. I’ve been fortunate to attend a few performances since the inception and all I will say is Bravo! Born and raised in New York, I have been exposed to the creme de la creme of performance art, and I am wildly impressed with the venues and quality of the performances.
Tony Hsieh has become a superstar in Las Vegas for his vision, capital expenditure and passion for downtown. The Downtown Project http://downtownproject.com/ is a group lead by Mr. Hsieh to aid in the revitalization of downtown and the creation of an urban epicenter.
One of the newest notable project is the Downtown Grand hotel, formerly the Lady Luck, scheduled to open in late 2013. This will be an anchor, if you will, for Downtown 3rd, a name coined for an emerging district that includes Hogs & Heifers Saloon, Triple George restaurant and the Mob Bar. The area surrounding Third Street and Ogden Avenue will eventually be home to 18 bars and restaurants.
Quite a few of my clients are choosing downtown to live! A healthy mix of old and new creates a vibrant community of professionals, artists, and a budding tech arena.
The above mentions are just a few of many great venues molding East of Main- I encourage anyone that has not experienced downtown to do so and be a part of the emerging city within a city.
Until later,
